Overview

Joytrack ("the Extension") is a browser extension that helps users track product price changes across multiple online store regions. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about the data we handle.

Data We Collect

When you visit a supported product page, the Extension automatically collects:

Product ID — the unique identifier of the product on the store
Product Name — the displayed name of the product
Price & Currency — the current listed price
Country/Region — which regional store the product is from (e.g., DE, FR, NL, UK)
Timestamp — when the price was recorded
Anonymous Install ID — a randomly generated identifier (e.g., ext_abc123_xyz) stored locally in your browser, used only to deduplicate price submissions and provide aggregate usage statistics. Cannot be linked to your identity.

Background Price Collection (v2.3.7+)

If you opt in to "Background Collection" (you are asked at install time and may toggle it anytime via the extension popup), the Extension performs one additional action:

Approximately once per hour, the Extension fetches one publicly visible Joybuy category listing page (e.g., m.joybuy.de/s?l1=2481&page=0) in the background.
From that page, the Extension extracts the same product data described above (product IDs, names, prices, currency, country) and submits it to the Joytrack server.
This consumes approximately 5 MB of bandwidth per hour and is intended to help build a community-sourced price database that benefits all Joytrack users.
The Extension cycles through different category listings so each user contributes a small, even share of data.
Background collection is opt-in: a clear notice is shown at install time and you can disable it at any time from the popup. When disabled, the Extension only records data from product pages you actively visit (same as the original v2.3.6 behavior).

Data We Do NOT Collect

No personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
No browsing history beyond supported product pages
No cookies or tracking identifiers
No payment or financial information
No device or hardware information
No user accounts or authentication data

How Data Is Used

The collected product and price data is used solely to:

Display price history charts on product pages
Show price statistics (current, lowest, highest, average)
Power the Joytrack dashboard for browsing tracked products

Data Storage

Price data is stored on a secure PostgreSQL database hosted by Railway (EU region). Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in compliance with GDPR requirements. No data leaves the EU.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share any collected data with third parties. The price data is only accessible through the Joytrack dashboard and extension interface.

Permissions

The Extension requests the following browser permissions:

Host permissions (joybuy.de, joybuy.fr, joybuy.nl, joybuy.co.uk) — to read product information and prices on supported store pages, and (if Background Collection is enabled) to fetch publicly accessible category listings
storage — to remember your preferences (e.g., Background Collection enabled/disabled) and your anonymous install ID locally on your machine
alarms — to schedule the optional hourly background price collection

Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data to access, modify, or delete. You can:

Disable Background Collection at any time from the extension popup — no further background fetching will occur
Uninstall the Extension to remove all locally stored preferences and stop all data submission
Request deletion of contributed data by emailing the contact below with your anonymous install ID (visible in the extension popup)

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
